Graduate students are eligible for a variety of financial assistance programs including entrance or continuing scholarships, graduate fellowships, awards, teaching and research assistantships, bursaries and loans. Merit-based graduate scholarships and awards are administered by the Dean of Graduate Studies Office while financial needs-based graduate scholarships, bursaries and loans, including Government student loans, emergency loans and the Work Study Program, are administered by Awards and Financial Aid. Provost's Prize of Distinction (PPD) *NEW*
Top-up awards for national scholarship recipients from one of the
tri-coucils: NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR. The PPD will be awarded
automatically to run concurrently with the student's national
scholarship. The value of the PPD is equivalent to the cost of tuition

Provost International Fellowship *NEW*
Awards for exceptional students sponsored by their country of origin,
equivalent to the student's tuition fees per academic term. For
further details, view the official Terms of Reference.
Entrance Scholarships
Graduate, Special and Private Entrance Scholarships are offered to the best incoming graduate students for full-time graduate study or research.
Graduate Fellowships Although Graduate Fellowships (including FAS-GF's and CTEF-GF's) are administered through the Dean of Graduate Studies office, applicants must be nominated through their department.
President Research Stipend
Although President Research Stipends are administered through the Dean of Graduate Studies office, applicants must be nominated through their department.
Private Awards
Merit-based awards from private donors and endowments are administered by the Dean of Graduate Studies Office. These Private Awards are bound by a terms of reference, which includes the application criteria. Our office also processes Research and Travel awards.
External Awards
Awards that are administered through the Dean of Graduate Studies but are funded through external granting agencies, such as NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR are considered External Awards. There are also a number of other external funding opportunities. These awards are not processed by the university; applicants apply to the organization directly.

International Students
Students who are not Canadian citizens and who would require financial assistance must seek assistance in their country of origin before arrival in Canada. Many external awards are restricted to Canadian citizens or permanent residents. However, foreign students are eligible for most internal awards after they have been accepted into a graduate program.
Events
Graduate Orientation Day and Graduate Scholarships Days are information sessions held annually that provide information, including application writing tips, to prospective award applicants.
