Mitigating Wildfire Initiative Launches the 2023 What We Heard Report
The Mitigating Wildfire Initiative is pleased to share their "What We Heard" report, highlighting key findings from their 2023 workshop on strategic and collaborative approaches to mitigating wildfire in B.C.
The event brought together a spectrum of voices, including government officials, Indigenous leaders, academic experts, practitioners and advocates in a candid and open conversation on the challenges and potential solutions surrounding wildfire mitigation.
The report aims to highlight a shared vision of wildfire stewardship in B.C. and a series of pathways to achieve that transformation. This is intended to be a resource not only for government officials, industry leaders and community stakeholders but also for anyone who cares deeply about the future of wildfire in British Columbia. It is a comprehensive overview of the wildfire threat in the province, offering a roadmap for action.
This report was prepared by Simon Fraser University’s Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue – Mitigating Wildfire Initiative (MWI). The purpose is to provide a summary of the discussion held during a June 2023 dialogue on strategic and collaborative approaches to mitigating wildfire. The Mitigating Wildfire Initiative facilitates dialogue and collaboration to identify and advance solutions that address the fundamental changes happening in wildfire risk and management in B.C.
