jack p. blaney award for dialogue
The Jack P. Blaney Endowment Fund was established in September 2000 by friends and colleagues to honour Jack P Blaney, SFU President Emeritus. Dr. Blaney saw the need for a dedicated facility to promote and support dialogue for people with diverse views to find a path to positive action. The Endowment Fund supports the Jack P Blaney Award for Dialogue and the Award is presented to an individual who exemplifies, internationally, the spirit and programs of SFU's Centre for Dialogue. Recipients of the award will have demonstrated excellence and accomplishments in using dialogue to further understanding complex issues of public importance.
In 2002, the first medal was given to leading international environmentalist Maurice Strong and in 2005 to Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and United Nations high commissioner for human rights. Liz Lerman, choreographer and founder of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange received the award in 2009.
In spring 2012, we will be presenting the Blaney Award for Dialogue to Karen Armstrong, one of the most provocative, original thinkers on the role of religion in the modern world. For more information, please click here.
