WELCOME TO The Adopt-A-Class Project Website. The Adopt-A-Class Project Evaluation is a longitudinal study of the influence of  intensive field trips on youth aspirations, and their corresponding choices. The study will follow approximately 2,000 Grade 5 students participating in high impact career and educational explorations field trips (e.g. exploring aviation and going flying in helicopters and small aircraft) who are enrolled at Lena Shaw Elementary. In addition to these field trips, the students participate in a campus exploration day at Simon Fraser University and have an opportunity to participate in a free summer camp in the summers between Grades 5, 6, and 7.

Main questions of the study:

  1. what are the impacts of the Adopt-A-Class Project on career aspirations?

  2. what are the impacts of the Adopt-A-Class Project on educational aspirations?
  3. what are the impacts of the Adopt-A-Class Project on lifestyle choices?
  4. how do the impacts vary by student and school characteristics?
