WELCOME TO The
Adopt-A-Class Project Website. The Adopt-A-Class Project Evaluation is a longitudinal study of the
influence of intensive
field trips on youth aspirations, and their corresponding
choices. The study will follow approximately 2,000 Grade 5
students participating in high impact career and educational
explorations field trips (e.g. exploring aviation and going
flying in helicopters and small aircraft) who are enrolled at
Lena Shaw Elementary. In addition to these field trips, the
students participate in a campus exploration day at Simon Fraser
University and have an opportunity to participate in a free
summer camp in the summers between Grades 5, 6, and 7.
Study findings will have direct implications for both governmental and
private programs and provide an important basis for addressing
current debates about the future of student aspirations, access,
and choice in the province and nationwide.
