Method of Evaluation

My intent was to utilize a GIS based Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE) using a weighted linear combination (WLC). This method allows for flexibility in the decision process as criteria are expressed as either factors (continuous variables) or constraints (Boolean variables).

The following steps were intended to be taken to evaluate the data:

• Identify relevant criteria which will form the basis of the evaluation.
  
  
• Create factor and constraints maps, which reflect the restrictions and variables applicable to determining where a road can be built.
  
  
• Derive a set of factor weights using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).
  
  
• Perform the final evaluation to complete the Multi-Criteria Evaluation.

However, this standard and reasonable plan of action was curtailed upon realising, too late, that my data was not condusive to an analysis of this type. Click here for information regarding problems I had with the data.
