Elevation data for the Crater Lake National Park was
obtained from the Crater Lake Data Clearinghouse in
the form of a 10m-resolution DEM derived from hypsographic
data and photogrammetry of four topographic quadrangle
maps. The 3D model below was created using this data
in 3DEM software, right click to zoom in..

Road, vegetation type, park boundary, lake shape and
trail attribute data were provided by the National Park
Services website. All layers were intially in Arc INFO
format and requied conversion. Roads and vegetaion types
also required reprojection in Idrisi.

The vegetation type layer was derived from sattelite
imagery using all 6 bands of the Landsat Thematic Mapper,
and supported by 550 field sites to ground truth for
a total of 16 different vegatation categories.
The image
above shows the combination of the initial raster DEM
as a background with road, trail, stream and lake vector
layers in IDRISI. Vegatation
type is not included.
