Data Sources

All of the background information on leprechauns came from the following web sites as well as some fictional creativity on my part.

http://rosalin.tripod.com/chaun.html

http://showcase.netins.net/web/magicman/lilguys.htm

The reasons for choosing the various criteria for the analysis are described in the Methodology section of the site. All of the data files came from the provided GVRD data in the S drive of the SIS computer lab at SFU or the data set was digitized by hand. All data is in IDRISI format so no converting was necessary. The following table is a summary of the layers that were used, a description of each layer, and how the data was obtained.

Data Layer
File
Description
Sources
GVRD base map
city.rst
Raster layer showing all of the municipalities and islands iof the GVRD
SIS lab
Land use
gvrd_landuse.rst
Raster layer showing all of the land uses, by code and description, in the GVRD
SIS lab
Human habitation
nopeople.rst
Raster Boolean image of areas where nobody lives
SIS lab
Water
water.vct
Vector layer showing rivers, lakes, creeks, and coast line
SIS lab
Roads
allroads.vct
Vector layer showing the roads in the GVRD
SIS lab
50m DEM
gvrd_dem.rst
Raster layer showing the elevation of the GVRD
SIS lab
Shoe stores
repair.cvt
Digitized layer of the three closest shoe rapair stores to the corresponding high density leprechaun regions
Internet business finder and yellow pages

supply.vct
Digitized layer of the single closest shoe supply store (there are two in the GVRD, but one is closest to all three regiions
Internet business finder and yellow pages

Not all of the shoe repair stores were digitized because there are over 130 locations throughout the GVRD.

These are the original data sources. Any other layers were created using IDRISI Kilimenjaro edition and these original files.
