Protecting
the Lake Tahoe Basin:
The
Lake Tahoe Interagency Monitoring
Program
In
1980, the Lake Tahoe Interagency
Monitoring Program (LTIMP) began
assessment of the effect of development
and recreational use on the Lake
Tahoe Basin through stream discharge,
lake sediment and water quality
analysis. The LTIMP is a co-operative
operation of 12 departments from
both the California and Nevada
state governments, with Federal
assistance. Until now, only field
analysis has been financially
feasible. However, with increasing
demand from the general public,
the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency
and other development groups as
well as from the scientific community
for non-biased, science-based
environmental planning information,
permanent site facilities are
necessary. The LTIMP will construct
both permanent lakefront and tributary
stream analysis stations. A multi-criteria
evaluation of site locations has
been completed using a Geographic
Information System (IDRISI Kilimanjaro)
to determine the most appropriate
sites for construction. This website
presents the data, methodology,
results and discussion of this
spatial analysis - site evaluation
project.
