This project aims at evaluating multi-criteria and identifying the differences of importance for each criteria through the decision making process called "Analytical Hierarchy Process" APA to weight comparison between two factors.

The pairwise comparison matrix table for the MCE Results: All opposite values are the inverse of the values shown.

The eigenvector of weights is :

daycare_fuz : 0.0801
petshop_fuz : 0.0801
vets_fuz : 0.0603
parks_ass : 0.0289
popden_ass : 0.3949
familyin_ass : 0.2272
biketrail_fuz : 0.0289
landuse_ass : 0.0901

Consistency ratio = 0.02 is acceptable

Results can be acquired in 2 ways:

1) Run the marcomodel with all the already created "fuzzy" images and by adding the MCE module into the cartographic model and inserting the APA weights file. This process is timely because all the files must be re-calculated prior to producing MCE results.

[See main Cartographic Model]

2)Use decision wizard to create the same results map. However the results are displayed RECLASS module was used to classify suitability into 5 main groups so it is easy for the reader to understand. The red area is optimal locations for opening a new pet shop with boarding and grooming facilities. To enhance my results, I added a high-pass filter vector file of the Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond district boundaries to give the reader a sense of orientation and completeness.

CONCLUSIONS

Prior to starting my analysis I was hoping Richmond along No.3 Road or Kerrisdale (41st Avenue and West Blouevard) would be optimal locations for opening a new pet shop; however, as my project comes to concluded based on all eight factors: existing pet shops and daycare, promixity to veteninary clinics, parks nearby, bike trails for customers and their pets to commute together, population density patterns, average family incomes, and existing landuse types it appears the best locations for a new pet shop are along West Broadway or the west end of downtown Vancouver.

Other factors that could ultimately influence store owners decision to open are rental prices. I've done some searching on spaces4lease.com and discovered rental prices in downtown Vancouver and West Broadway are significantly higher than those in Richmond, so first time store owners might want to open in a shop where rental prices are cheaper if budget does not allow for competing in expensive areas.
