Habitat
To help conserve me and my buddies people need to help increase the size of my winter habitat because there is not enough for everybody. People need to set aside grasslands so that all of my buddies can eat. The kids in our group also need to feed on the lowland grasslands. Unfortunatly, all these grasslands are dissapearing. More areas need to be set aside so that I can be protected.
Scientists
Also instead of monitoring me on a species basis you need to monitor us on a herd basis. This way scientists can keep track of my population easier. As well, instead of once every three years scientists need to monitor everybody every year. If we are becoming extinct, scientists need to track us better. This is difficult because we migrate and move across different countries.
Pollution
Scientists think that one of the reasons why there is not as many of us as there once was is because of pollution. The acid rain that is produced by pollution destroys the vegatation that we eat. Also the pollution that is produced, like that of the picture above, gets into our circulatory systems. All the pollution that is produced can get into my food. When I eat that food it goes into my system and builds up. After it builds up it can make me sick. It really makes the younger sheep very very sick. Because I live in the mountains there is more pollution. The air pollution rises and then is carried by the wind. When it reaches the Rocky Mountains where I live it is all deposited on the mouintian slopes.
Knowledge
To help save me everybody needs to be more aware of what is hurting me and my buddies. The problems are pollution, loss of my habitat and hunting. If more people are aware of my problems then people can better understand how to fix them. There are groups out there to help preserve me. My favorite is the Rocky Mountain Big Horn Society. This group lobbies to help protect my habitat all along the Rocky Moutains. Many people should come and visit me in one of the parks to realize that I am worth while to save!!!!!!
