Data CollectionThe majority data used for analysis in this project was provided for by the SFU GIS network, S:// drive, in the folder labelled van_core. This data was already in Idrisi format and only required some simple vector to raster conversions within Idrisi Kilimanjaro. However, I had to set the raster files' columns and rows to 415 and 311 respectively to allow for overlay of layers. Also, metadata for the files was missing which i required to know what the data itself stood for. I obtained the metadata from the original site the files were taken and converted from at the Vancouver Island CORE GIS Data website: http://srmwww.gov.bc.ca/rmd/regional/vanisle/vanisl_core_data_gis.html The files from the S:// drive used were: fishlake.vct, hunting.vct, isldhwy.vct, lakes.vct, landuse.rst, m_roads.vct, ovcamp.vct, vanisle.rst Major cities based on population sizes were hand-digitized in Idrisi Kilimanjaro. Population statistics information were obtained from from BC STATS Government of British Columbia website: http://www.bcstats.gov.bc.ca/data/cen01/c2001pop.htm The location of present Telus Mobility cellular towers were also hand-digitized in Idrisi Kilimanjaro. The location of the cellular towers were obtained from a website known as GeckoBeach which included some helpful background information on the nature of cellular equipment. http://www.geckobeach.com/cellular/maps/default.htm
