Hi, I'm Qiang, a first-year international graduate student in the Faculty of Education.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?

I learned that SFU has excellent programs for educational studies, an extraordinary academic environment, as well as a diverse student population. All fit well with my decade-long teaching background and my research interest. Another factor was that SFU is committed to providing financial aid to international students.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

My program (mathematics education) is very interesting, using multiple lenses to look into mathematics education - beyond your expectations. The teachers and administrative staff are all very helpful; together with my fellow students, we are a community.

WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?

I am impressed by SFU's commitment to diversity and inclusion. And the faculty are very helpful and supportive to me.

HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.

I have been awarded the Graduate Dean Entrance Scholarship. The scholarship definitely has been a great support to my study and research. I could focus on my academic progress without worrying too much about how to pay my tuition fees and living costs. More importantly, I feel valued and appraised by receiving the scholarship, and am committed myself to be a role model.
