Workshop Steps Unit 2

Web Log Instruction

Your Ideas ... Your Web Log

- Create a web page on your sfu site titled anim-log, so if your sfu name is "you", that’s www.sfu.ca/~you/anim-log.

- Begin to keep an ongoing web log of you animation class ideas, inspirations, sketches, narratives, color schemes, story boards, stills, animation tests ...

  • Here the type of items to be put weekly in your web-log:

    - visual research,
    - scanned in sketches or notes which you like (or are meaningful)
    from your sketchbook,
    - scanned in story board images (rough, or quality images), thumbnails,
    - links to web sites on animation, or inspirational art, writing, images...
    - screen shots from your creative 3D models and MAX work

    - anything that relates to your animation thinking

Weblog Example
Here is an example of a web-log that Sara Coldrick has created of her animation ideas. Note this is only an example of one way to do a web-log and that this page will change and grow with her ideas.

A note on format
The web-format is not as important as the content you are keeping
on it. A standard web page is fine, with a basic white, or black background.
Should you wish to be creative with the presentation of the web page, you are certainly welcome to do so, but that is beyond the assignment.

Weblog as your ideas

Besides it's value for the critique, this web page is meant to be a useful place where you can critically discuss your work and ideas with your peers, and make changes, and developments over the duration of this 15 week course. You can send your web page link to your peers for example and discuss it in your CMS groups, so all can refer to it. You may also wish to present your ideas to the class, where opportunity permits, and once again, simply opening your page to do so is a good way of doing that.

Weeks 2-5 web log modeling assignment
As stated in the weeks1-5 assignments, your weblog should also have still images ( or short animation that "capture" some quality of modelling you have achieved, and can show off your use of composition, color, lighting, and camera movements, for example. The idea is to show off what you have learned and creatively applied over the first block of animation. Also, the images, (animation sequence) should relate to your greater plan for the 30 sec. production. For instance this may be an object that you will use and perhaps animate in your final story, or perhaps it will demonstrate the modelling techniques you plan to use in your final story. The value of this image/model to you is something you will be able to share in your critique on week 5.
See the assignment page for more details.
