4x Precedent Studies
Team of 2 persons do research and present on the precedent you are assigned
The format is to be the same/ similar to that we use for ItaliaDesign pre-trip context studies. We will specify the format and you must deliver it to Ava our course TA, ready for upload to the course site, formatted for web. This is part of the project. Failure to do this part will result in loss of 30% of the grade. Italia Design
You are not regurgitating facts. You are presenting to your peers, and taking notes while they present, learning the language or grammar of the fields under study. You will be required and expected to be capable with such languages in the applied projects we do at mid-term till the end.
5+ examples of work, selected carefully.
You must tell us: why is this designer/ firm important? What do they do that others do not? What trends or design moments do they represent? How can we tell it is THEIR work? If historical you must show why it is indicative of a period or “style” (i.e. post-modern or deconstructive).
Break down the language/ grammar using graphical information design elements
EXCEPTIONAL senior level communication design is mandatory at all times. If I have to say ANYTHING about this you be required to redo the entire project within 48 hours or fail the component.
The El Croquis layout for their summaries, will be our basic shared visual vocabulary (Swiss, bars, Helvetica Neue)
You must identify ther 1-3 “great” works. You must cover at least one current/ recent (2005-2006) work.
You must also submit separately to Ava the images you use in the highest possible quality, resolution and max megapixels. We will be re-using these shots. These must be tagged: example: MVRDV/berlin_voids1.jpeg.
Remember: the reason why do this is because we are developing a literacy of contemporary practice and then merging worlds/ fields/ disciplines
