Innovation profiling in technology intensive firms:

The purpose of this sub-theme is to fill in some key parts of the source-activity matrix for different types of technology intensive firms on the one hand, and resource-based firms on the other. We also intend to include service industries, which have been less well-studied but are regarded as very important to industrial development in BC and Alberta. we want to understand how these firms are linked to human resource and technology infrastructure in the regions. The results of a short-form innovation survey based on the European Union IOECD model but tailored for BC small and medium sized enterprises will be central to this theme. The work will be complemented by case studies of individual firms that will: validate the survey results for those firms, extend discussion and estimates of effort into areas of innovation not covered by the survey, and explore relationships between the firm and other elements of the innovation system.
