The Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines (ISTLD)

The mandate of the Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines (ISTLD)as approved by the SFU Senate in 2007, is to inspire, support, and enhance faculty-led inquiry into all aspects of teaching and learning at SFU.

Faculty-led inquiry attends to the five widely accepted principles of good practice in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as initially described by Boyer (1990) and further refined by Felton (2013): inquiry focused on student learning; grounded in context; methodologically sound; conducted in partnership with students; and appropriately public (p. 122).
