The conference is being held in association with the J.S. Woodsworth Resident Scholar program in the Humanities at Simon Fraser University, and is part of the mandate of the Woodsworth residency’s most recent occupant, Robert Menzies. The event also coincides with the programming activities of the Imagining Citizenship initiative of the SFU Institute for the Humanities, and the involvements of the Citizenship and Social Justice working group (the membership of which includes Margaret Jackson [Co-chair], Adrienne Burk, Dorothy Chunn, David Mirhady, and Bob Russell).

The Convening Committee for the conference comprises five members of the Department of Humanities and Institute for the Humanities: Robert Menzies, Stephen Duguid (Department Chair), Anne-Marie Feenberg-Dibon (Institute Director), Trish Graham (Institute Programming Assistant), and Eleanor Stebner (Woodsworth Chair).
