INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY AT SFU

This year’s global theme is Break the Bias, which asks us to challenge given norms, expectations and assumptions. In celebration of International Women’s Day 2022, we spoke with leaders, influencers and changemakers from across the university, who shared what this theme means to them.

SFU'S RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT PICKS UP SPEED IN 2022

“Responsible investment has been a priority for the university since 2014 but with the SFU Board’s recent declaration of a climate emergency and new climate action commitments, we re-doubled our efforts to accelerate our ambitious plans,” says Alison Blair, associate vice-president, finance. Since announcing the university’s commitment to full divestment last fall, SFU’s Global equity portfolio, valued at $450 million as of December 2021, is 100 per cent fossil fuel free.

NEW LEGAL SUPPORTS FOR SFU'S INVENTORS

SFU's Technology Licensing Office (TLO) and its new services are here to help better serve our faculty, graduate students and other university researchers in SFU’s inventor community. Kamaldeep Singh Sembi, the TLO's inaugural director and IP legal counsel, discusses what makes creating intellectual property at SFU unique and why SFU innovators should be excited for the journey ahead.

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

SEEKING EMERGING THOUGHT LEADERS

Partnering with Informed Opinions, the Emerging Thought Leaders online workshop series helps prepare faculty members and researchers to speak with the media and position their research and knowledge to be covered in op-eds and media commentary.

To increase diversity in media spokespeople, preference will be given to individual applicants who identify as women, transgender, and gender non-conforming or individuals from under-represented groups, including Black, Indigenous and people of colour.

Work will impact access to and from the upper levels of the West Parkade, from the main entrance off University Drive West. The 6000 and 7000 levels of the parkade will remain accessible from the main entrance, while all other access will be rerouted via the 8000 Level entrance at Gaglardi Way. Construction work is scheduled now through next Friday, March 11th. The week of March 14th the parkade will open again with single lane access to the upper level.

Faculty are invited to apply for positions on these prominent governing bodies at the university. Ever wondered what it's all about? Check out this sneak peek from a member of the SFU community who serves on both.

Applications for the summer term of Semester in Dialogue, Trust, Money and Power, are now open. Please share this information with undergraduate students who may be interested in exploring the practice of dialogue in academic and community settings. Applications close Friday, April 1.
