SFU: WHAT'S NEXT?

WHAT IS SFU'S NEXT BOLD MOVE?

Right now, there’s a conversation taking place between faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners about SFU's next bold move. Some of the ideas shared so far include:

  • SFU becoming a living wage employer
  • Offering ungraded, interdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities
  • Investing further in open education that is affordable, accessible and inclusive

Head over to ThoughtExchange to read and rate these thoughts and others, and to share your own bold ideas before the discussion closes on May 1.

Congratulations to Paola Ardiles who is the recipient of the BC Teaching and Learning Council’s West Coast Distinguished Teaching Award

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

NOTICE: BUILDING CLOSURES ON APRIL 30

As part of SFU’s laboratory chemical round-up campaign, SFU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) has been working with laboratory managers and employees to identify any potentially hazardous chemicals in SFU Burnaby and Surrey laboratories that require controlled safe disposal. Neutralization work of these chemicals will take place on Burnaby campus Saturday, April 30.

As a safety precaution, no access will be permitted to the Shrum Chemistry building (SCC), Technology & Science Complex 2 (TASC 2) and South Science building (SSB) starting at 6:00 A.M. on April 30. Science Road will also be closed in both directions.

Please plan for this closure to last the entire day. Once safe, the buildings may reopen earlier and a message will be shared on Twitter (@SFU)

For any questions, please contact Monica Szczepina, SFU EHS Director, Research & Laboratory Safety; mszczepi@sfu.ca, 778-782-7265.

HELP BRING A GONDOLA TO SFU

SFU is thrilled that the proposed Burnaby Mountain Gondola is being considered alongside other important transit priorities for Metro Vancouver. If you feel strongly that the gondola is the right choice for SFU and the best sustainable option for our environment, please take a couple of minutes and complete TransLink’s survey on 10-year transportation priorities.

SFU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status. If you’ve already submitted your vaccine declaration, there’s no need to do so again. Vaccination declaration supports safety planning at the university and remains one of the layers of protection for the health, safety and well-being of our community. The declarations are voluntary, confidential and submitted online through the secure Thrive Health website.
