SFU STUDENTS TO DEVELOP ZERO-EMISSIONS RETROFIT FOR STANLEY PARK TRAIN

A student team from SFU School of Sustainable Energy Engineering is applying their engineering skills, in collaboration with CityStudio Vancouver and the City of Vancouver, to create a more sustainable future for the Stanley Park Train. By retrofitting the gasoline engine with an electric motor, the innovative project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, eliminate the smell of exhaust and substantially reduce the maintenance costs.

 

JOANNE STONE-CAMPBELL: BRINGING INDIGENOUS WAYS OF LEARNING INTO THE BUSINESS WORLD

"I didn’t have many mentors in the area of education," says Joanne Stone-Campbell, an Anishinaabe business professional and graduate of SFU Beedie’s Indigenous Business Leadership Executive MBA (IBL EMBA) program. "I wanted to teach my daughter to have role models and to give her some inspiration, too, so that she has stepping stones to follow her own passions and dreams."

 

SFU PIPE BAND WINS WORLD DRUM CORPS CHAMPIONSHIP

SFU remains in the elite ‘top six’ in the world after competing at the 2022 World Pipe Band Championships—while its drum corps will bring home the top prize in the competition’s World Drum Corps Championship (WDCC). The band’s lead drummer Reid Maxwell has earned five world titles in his 30 years with SFU, while mentoring many rookie drummers who attended 'Worlds' for the first time this year.
