RESEARCH TO IMPROVE AWARENESS OF LONG COVID

More long COVID awareness and education is needed among doctors, nurses, care providers and the public in Canada to reduce stigma around the condition and legitimize the disability. “It’s an invisible and new condition,” says Kayli Jamieson, a longhauler who is working on a larger study with Kaylee Byers, an assistant professor in SFU’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

INVESTIGATING 15-MINUTE NEIGHBOURHOODS

Faculty of Health Sciences professor Meghan Winters led the REACH-Cities research team who are investigating the concept of 15-minute neighbourhoods. The team spoke with a diverse range of Surrey residents to understand if they felt this neighbourhood format would benefit or threaten their current communities.

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

RECONCILI-ACTION ON CAMPUS

The RESPECT program teaches Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism for faculty and staff at SFU. This 11-week hybrid course focuses on skills for engaging with Indigenous community members at SFU and upholding reconciliation as an institution. Learn alongside a cohort of your peers and participate in facilitated self-reflection and personal development. Intake for the program is now open and the next cohort begins May 13.

TRANSFORMING LIBRARY SPACE

Discover how the Student Learning Commons at SFU's Surrey campus Fraser Library created a space now known as the Chill Lounge. The cozy section was designed to relax and study while supporting students during the stress of exam time. The concept is now being expanded to library space at the Burnaby campus.

Phishing attempts and scams sent via email are rising and it is important for all faculty and staff to discern suspicious emails from legitimate ones. SFU Information Security Services is encouraging everyone to immediately report any phishing attempt or suspicious emails you receive on your SFU Mail to keep your cyber data and digital assets safe and protected.

SFU’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the 2024–25 consolidated budget. Informed and influenced by the institutional strategy and other university-wide plans, the yearly budget will guide SFU’s academic program delivery, research initiatives and administration.

BURNABY CAMPUS: CLOCK ISSUE

Many wall clocks at the Burnaby campus are displaying incorrect times (two hours ahead, two hours behind, spinning continuously, etc). SFU electricians are working with contractors and hope to have this issue resolved soon.
