TACKLING SUBSTANCE USE-RELATED HARMS IN LOCAL YOUTH

Congratulations to School of Public Policy associate professor Kora DeBeck who has been appointed as an Applied Public Health Chair by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. As one of the twelve researchers from across Canada joining the 2024 cohort, DeBeck's research aims to tackle the toxic drug crisis for young people who use drugs in British Columbia.

 

CONDUCTING SOME BERRY COOL RESEARCH

SFU biological science researchers are working to develop new plant varieties and precision to indoor growing techniques. The goal is to produce fresh, local blueberries even in the depths of winter, resulting in fresher, better and more sustainable produce.

DISTINGUISHED COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE AWARD NOMINATIONS NOW ACCEPTED

The Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award (CDSA) committee is now seeking nominations. The CDSA recognizes and celebrates individuals and organizations for their outstanding commitment and service to the university. Nominations for youth and emerging leaders are encouraged. Nomination deadline: May 15.

 

Hal Weinberg, BPK professor emeritus and one of SFU's first faculty members passed away on January 25 at the age of 90. A renowned neurophysiologist, Weinberg was at the forefront of the development of brain imaging. He also served as the city of Anmore’s first mayor. A celebration of life is planned for April 13 at SFU's Burnaby campus.
