INVESTIGATING PRECARIOUS WORK AND HEALTH EFFECTS ON BLACK PEOPLE IN B.C.

Alice Mũthoni Mũrage is a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Health Sciences studying how Black people are disproportionately affected by unemployment and underemployment. In addition to her research, Mũrage is the director of the African Ancestry Project, which she initiated in partnership with the B.C. Black History Awareness Society.

 

RESEARCH TEAM DESIGNS A CUTTING-EDGE PROTEIN LAWNMOWER

The first synthetic protein-based motor that harnesses biological reaction from proteins in nature to fuel and propel itself has been created by a team of researchers from SFU physics department and Switzerland. In the future molecular motors may have important applications in medicine and biocomputing.

 

ANSWERING A DECADES-LONG ANTIMATTER QUESTION

Does antimatter fall down or does it fall up? This question had never been answered—until now. SFU Distinguished Professor Emeritus of physics Mike Hayden and a team of international scientists directly observed antimatter and gravity in a breakthrough discovery.

Westbound traffic on University High Street to East Campus Road will be closed for approximately two months beginning March 4 to accommodate road realignment work. A detour via University Crescent and Highland Court will be in place. Please pay attention to signage in the area.

The nominations are in and voting is now open to help choose the 2024 SFU Faculty of Environment (FENV) Changemakers of the Year. The awards celebrate students in the faculty who are making positive social or environmental change in their communities and around the world. Voting deadline: March 4.

The annual SFU United Way Book Sale is celebrating 30 years at the Burnaby campus. The sale runs March 5 - 7 in the AQ North Concourse. Cash and cards will be accepted forms of payment. All proceeds support United Way British Columbia and the vital work they do strengthening our community and uplifting those in need.
