Betty A. Schellenberg

Welcome to the home page of Betty A. Schellenberg, Professor of English at Simon Fraser University.

I am a specialist in eighteenth-century studies who received my training at the University of Winnipeg (BEd, BAHonours) and the University of Ottawa (MA, PhD). Some of my recent publications are Literary Coteries and the Making of Modern Print in England, 1740-1790 (coming soon), an edition of the correspondence of the novelist Samuel Richardson (Cambridge, 2015), The Professionalization of Women Writers in Eighteenth-Century Britain (Cambridge, 2005), and Reconsidering the Bluestockings(Huntington Library, 2003, co-edited with Nicole Pohl).

My current research focuses on the relationship between literature circulating in script and print publications. I have recently enjoyed teaching undergraduate courses titled " 5 x 5: Essential Poetry of the Eighteenth Century” and “Sex, Sin, the Self, and the City.” I supervise graduate students in all aspects of eighteenth-century literary life.
