Across the pond, a memorable clan gathering
My time in London last week was action-packed.
Highlights included a presentation on The Engaged University to the British Council's Going Global conference; a meeting with Gordon Campbell, Canada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom; and MOU signings with representatives of The Prince's Foundation for Building Community, as well as with the President of New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Most special, though, was the opportunity to connect with SFU alumni at a reception held Thursday evening at the Canadian High Commission.
Three dozen enthusiastic alumni, exchange students and friends attended the event where SFU MBA ('78) Gordon Campbell talked about the university's development and the importance of post-secondary education in our increasingly global society.
After screening one of the new Engage SFU videos, I was delighted to award the door prize–an iPad emblazoned with the new branding–to Ravi Patel, a recent graduate and former student representative on the SFU Board of Governors who is currently studying law in England.
For me, the greatest prize of the evening was seeing SFU alumni, students and friends engaging with each other and their alma mater.
It was indeed a wonderful evening, full of reminiscences and hopes for the future. It confirmed that SFU alumni are passionate about their university–and are therefore its best ambassadors.
