In November, 2022 SFU Public Square supported SFU Surrey in convening a gathering of Indigenous, business, government and community leaders to revisit the finding of THRIVE! Surrey in 2030–– part of the 2015 We the City Community Summit –– to collaboratively envision a path to meet the unique challenges and opportunities that Surrey faces. At this workshop, Dr. Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, Vice-President, People, Equity and Inclusion, presented the work she and her team have been doing to develop SFU’s Equity Compass to welcome partnerships between SFU and the leaders present to advance a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community.

Throughout 2021, we brought together community members, leaders, academics and activists to have vital conversations about inequality, systemic racism and climate change in the face of a global pandemic. Learn more about how we developed the Towards Equity summit, who was involved, what we learned and how it made an impact.

As part of the Towards Equity community summit series, we partnered with the Ryerson Leadership Lab, Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship, and the First Nations Technology Council to host the Overcoming Digital Divides workshop series. This final report summarizes the main themes shared at the workshops and offers policy recommendations to address Canada's digital divides moving forward.

As part of the Towards Equity community summit series, advocates, researchers, policy-makers and solution-seekers gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities of taking equity-informed approaches to climate research, solutions and policy development.

Our Distant, Not Disengaged series was programmed in collaboration with CityHive and the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue to respond to the emerging issues and inequities of COVID-19. Read the final report to learn more about the series' impact.

SFU’s Reconciliation Policy Forum "Reconciliation in BC: When are we going to get to the hard stuff!?" sought to challenge the current discourse through facilitated and thoughtful dialogue and to identify the policy shifts needed to increase the pace, range and scope of initiatives that support reconciliation in British Columbia.

On the eve of the 2018 BCTech Summit, we convened leaders from business, government, and academia for The Future Is Cascadia, a cross-border workshop focused on building regional competitiveness. The gathering was designed to allow leaders in these sectors to articulate a collective vision for Cascadia in 2021. The group worked together to identify tangible actions that aimed to increase connectivity, drive innovation, and generate prosperity for all involved.

Canada's World Survey 2018
April 2018

The Canada’s World Survey 2018 was conducted by the Environics Institute for Survey Research in partnership with SFU Public Square, the Canadian International Council, and the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History. This research examines how Canadians as individuals relate to the broader world, asks about what they see as the top global issues, how they view Canada’s role in world affairs and what they think it could be.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA), they partnered with SFU Public Square to launch Re-Imagine Downtown Vancouver, a public engagement process to co-create a future-oriented and inclusive experience over the next 25 years. This report represents the culmination of our engagement work together.
