Students digitize lectures
Computing science students Oleg Titov and Dmitry Nasanovich have developed an automated digital recording system that makes password-protected lectures available online to students within minutes of being recorded.

The new digital system, available in Windows and MP3 audio formats, replaces an outdated and cumbersome tape recording system. Cassette recordings are fragile and labour-intensive to produce.

The digital recording software is completely integrated with the university’s scheduling software so that it takes a mere 30 seconds to input the lecture schedule for one semester—all the rest happens automatically.

The two international students have given SFU a lifetime license to their software, which they hope to sell to other educational institutions.
