With great regret, the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Executive Committee, with the support of Lead Host Simon Fraser University and Lead Organizer the British Columbia Council for International Education, has decided to postpone APAIE 2020 until March 2021.

This decision was taken after close monitoring of the rising global risk assessment by the World Health Organization. Although the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus is currently assessed as low in Canada and enthusiasm for APAIE 2020 is high among the more than 2,500 people who have registered to attend so far, the global situation is changing every day in unpredictable ways. We recognize the need to care for the health and welfare of our participants and of the host community.

Event organizers, including many at SFU, have been preparing for this event for over a year and were looking forward to welcoming everyone to Vancouver for APAIE’s first conference in North America. Though the decision is disappointing, the group will turn their attention to hosting in 2021.

APAIE continues to encourage greater cooperation between institutions, to enrich and support international programs, activities and exchanges, and to promote the value of international education across the region and beyond. SFU is a proud partner of APAIE, and deeply committed to our shared goals of international education, collaboration and engagement.
