Summary
In this talk, I'll speak about socio-technical issues that have
arisen in the design, implementation and use of health information
technology. Drawing on projects my research group (the Assessment of
Technology in Context Design Lab) has undertaken in recent years,
I'll outline a range of socio-technical issues, and discuss what
various topics addressed in SIAT's curriculum can contribute to
design solutions. Of particular interest are issues related to the
integration of data from multiple sources, which has long been a
health system goal because of the promise it holds in terms of
improving continuity of care and patient safety, and creating a
corpus of data which (in theory) can be used to answer varied
questions of interest to health researchers, administrators and policy makers.
