REEL 20 COMMENTARY

2. Very bizarre! Beginning of first tune missing. This type of "bell" has been used for 10-15 years here. Bells played on record player, very scratchy record. They are supposed to sound like carillon bells. Cars passing (4'00"; 5'00"; 5'15" ; 5'55"; 7'15" and idling; 7'40", 10'30"). End of record (10'45").

3. Take starts inside, talking to lighthouse keeper. Walking over to lighthouse (1'00"). Change of pot levels (2'45") and (3'30"). The horn sounds completely ridiculous. Comes on every 20", has a very high pitch, that descends toward the end. Same as at Cape Spears (reel 17 A3).

5. Topics of interview are: the old F Diaphone (2'10"); fishermen have complained about new horn (2'45"); no use to fishermen (3'30"); fog detector mechanism (5'10"); history of station, old horn and lighthouse keepers (6'15"); Long Point as tourist attraction (8'50"); big talk about all the things the soundscape will do about the foghorn issue! (11'30").

6. Cutlery clattering at beginning. Cash register (0'50", 1'20"). Some people talking, kids, somebody whistling (1'30"). Everything accompanied by hum from kitchen fan.
