REEL 71 COMMENTARY

1. Recorded from bridge. Steep incline as water drops under bridge. Fast flowing water, not that interesting, basically a continuous hiss in higher part of the frequency spectrum. No gurgles.

2. Argument stems from misunderstanding in card game. Lots of clinks at beginning (til 1'30"). Clock ticking, loud male voices in background. Recordist opens door (1'30"), voices clearer now. They are close to a real fight.

3. Same as previous take. It is hard to make out the words. Voices quieten down for a while (3'00"). Lots of foreground rustle caused by recordists. Voices getting louder again (3'45"-13'45" with peak at 7'30"). Somebody walking upstairs (11'20"). Then quiet (13'45") and clock ticking.

4. Extremely quiet, so quiet it sounds like tape hiss. Distant crow (1'15"-1'45"). Rumble from wind on microphone (2'30"-2'50") and intermittently throughout take, at times quite bad. This silence must have been nice in actuality, on tape it is simply uneventful, boring. Some high pitched bird twitter, very distant (11'20"). Plane (l3'15"-15'10") passing in distance, nice pitch, slow crescendo, and decrescendo. Distant squirrel (15'00"). Some strange sound (shouting?) at 17'45" in distance and again at 19'40", 21'20". Some bird activity.
