REEL 125 COMMENTARY

1. Walking along a soggy dirt road near a powerline toward a group of singing frogs. The frogs are close and clear. When they stop the delicate ambient sounds are clear, articulate -- a large sense of space. Nice phasing and other rhythmic relationships going on between the frogs.

1'45" getting closer.

*2'15" levels up (power hum more audible).

4'00" long train whistle, distant.

8'25" distant train whistle, again.

9'00" recordist walks closer to frogs.

10'00" they stop, distant plane in background, melting snow dripping from trees, jet, small bird, distant group of frogs in very deep backgrounds.

*13'20" single frog starts up, very close up, then a second, a third one.

14'15" they stop again.

16'00" up again.

16'40" joined by tiny bird.

18'30" out again.

2. Gentle, clear melting sounds, different drops have different qualities, and the occasional chunk of snow plops into the water ever so often, heavily. Distant frogs. Recordist testing at beginning.

3. Same as 2. Microphone position changed slightly. Quite a bit of aircraft and road traffic .... some zoom in and seem to saturate the space for a moment when they peak.

1'00" change position again, back again at 1'30".

2'45" airplane.

5'30" passing vehicle.

5'55" another, big muffled sound.

6'50" close frog croaking.

*9'25" airplane.

10'25" it peaks, and close frog croak,

12'00" car passes.

13'50" another,

16'25" a truck.

17'10" recordist adjusts position.

18'45" jet.

20'10" moving away.
