REEL 23 COMMENTARY

1. A single group of girls playing various skipping rope games, in between which there is often a discussion over which one to do next. They knew they were being recorded although this doesn't seem to have inhibited them. Traffic passing throughout. Opens with skipping rope.

0'20" "Are you going to put it on TV?" to recordist.

1'20" repeated phrase "mn", "mn" gets stuck.

l'00"-4'30" counting game.

4'45"-5'15" rhyme game.

5'45" another rhyme game, getting progressively louder.

2. Boys playing street hockey: a lot of vocal play, which becomes more threatening as the game goes on, considerable talk about body checking in second half of the take. Exclamations, calls, screams, stick noises, intermittent automobiles.

3'00" goal.

3'45" disagreement over the score, accusations of cheating.

4'45" "d'you want a fat lip?"

5'25" "Score!"...comment to recordist.

8'50" "Body check 'im; give 'im the works."
