REEL 54 COMMENTARY

1. The first part of this take is almost useless, because of this other material had to be used (see reel 115) for the "Entrance to the Harbour" of The Vancouver Soundscape, except for the last few minutes of this sequence. Take begins outside on deck. Mainly mechanical whine, pulsing white surf noise and wind noise.

*11'25" boat slowing down, buzzer (ship's telegraph) sounds, surf dies as speed lowers.

12'30" buzzer again, and at 13'00", 13'25" (two sets, exchanging signals), 13'55", 15'05", 15'35", buzzer and p.a. announcement.

18'30" different noises -- water, roars.

19'15" metal squealing.

*20'50" winches grinding.

21'40" winches grinding.

22'50" cars unloading, foot passengers (including recordist) walking off.

*26'00" enter ticket office, squeaky door.

27'00" leave ticket office.
