REEL 84 COMMENTARY

General Remarks: Recorded in the basement of the man's house -- very quiet, warm ambience. His voice is always very near and clear. Most of the sounds were too, except those which were too near and became distorted; at close range, no matter what the recording levels, small bell combinations seem to distort.

5. Starts with talk about whistle.

1'45" sleigh bells (distorted), then talk about rhythm of draft horses, and imitating their gait.

2'05" talk about an old music box.

5'25" showing recordists a flower grinder.

6'30" talking about old casting methods.

7'20" magneto telephones, hand rung, gives his old farm number code.

10'50" gramophone.
