Information for Participants With Neck Pain

Am I eligible?

We are looking for participants for the Fall 2008 to Summer 2009 time period. All participants must be women between the ages of 19 and 65. If you currently have neck pain as a result of a motor vehicle accident , you may be eligible. Additional criteria also apply. If you are interested in participating, please contact Marj Belot to find out if you are eligible and how to get involved.

Why should I get involved?

By participating in this study you will help the researchers improve evaluation and management of whiplash injuries so that doctors and therapists can help people reduce pain and recover faster. You will also be entered in a draw to win $200.

What do I have to do?

The study involves one session of electromyography recording of muscle activity during static contractions, easy arm movements, and at rest as well as measurement of skin-fold thickness at 4 sites. People with neck pain will also be examined by a physiotherapist and fill in several questionnaires, at the same session. The research takes place at the SFU Injury Prevention and Mobility Lab and at your choice of 13 clinics in the Lower Mainland

Before being part of the study, participants with neck pain (but not healthy participants!) must have their doctor sign a medical release form.  Please note that for your convenience the researcher can approach your doctor to sign the form, in some cases saving you a visit to the doctor. You can find it here.
