Y2K Contingency Planning

After coming back from a Year 2000 Contingency Planning course today, I
thought that it would be appropriate to pass Patricia's request along to
the list (attached). The course was presented by the Canadian Center for
Emergency Preparedness (http://www.ccep.ca>. They are willing to present
one day overview of the Y2K contingency planning process or a full 2 day
interactive workshop. They also will do custom presentations. Contact
Dave Johnson or Jan Surette at 1-800-965-4608.

I am sure most Campus computer support areas have active Year 2000 programs
underway but how many campuses are planning for service interruptions and
the possible implementation of their emergency plan and/or business
continuity plans?

Also, examples of non-compliant equipment/systems might be helpful to
others who may be in the midst of their project (or just starting). Still a
vast majority of people consider this "only a computer problem" and haven't
fully considered the implications to campus, municipal, state/province
operations. Many governments and other organizations are implementing their
emergency plans and anticipating vari

I would be interested in obtaining information as to how your university is
dealing with contingency planning and emergency response with regards to
physical plant operations. As you know, with the year 2000 approaching very
quickly, there is much concern as to how systems will respond to computer
related problems. More specifically, have you been working on plans as to
how to deal for example, hydro and water shutdowns, elevators, ventilation
systems, etc.

If so, are you doing this work internally, or have you hired external help
to assist you in this area? What is the status of your current activities?
What are your objectives for completion and testing of your plans? Who
within your organization could be contacted for further information?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.
