AJ Tailor is a premium suit company that sells a made-to-measure suits for men.
Website feature that allows customers to customize particular parts of suit such as lapels, pockets, sleeves, etc.
By hovering different parts of the suit, that is demonstrated as the main part of interface, user can explore customization. Clicking through highlighted parts, user can change the look of the suit.
Current customization system of ajtailor.com does not appear clear to customers as they have troubles visualizing customized suit. Therefore, the website does not attract customers which keeps online sales low. So there is a potential bringing more customers online, and increasing sales.
My design process started by making research about suit making process, studying competitors, and creating quick sketches to visualize the initial design form. My starting point was the website of main competitor of AJ Tailor, Tailor4Less - tailor4less.com.
I have spend some time analyzing their customization function and figuring out main interactions. Although the website overall functions really well, I figured that there is an opportunity to allow customers interact with the suit directly, instead of clicking through the side bar. Such approach would reduce cognitive overhead, allowing customers interact faster and more efficiently.
In the first mock-up, the user could see the customization options of the suit on the right. The problem was that user needs to visually go through the icons and by analysing them, user can choose the desired option and then see the result. So there is an opportunity to make the ineraction faster, by allowing users to click on the hover area and switching the options. This way user can instantly visualize the suit.
To complete the project I hace used different softwares: Illustrator for creation of icons and hover areas, Sketch for combining main design elements, and Principle for creating a prototype to user-test it.
At AJ Tailor I was responsible for the visual design that company produced including print and digital graphics. I was cooperating with marketing specialists to deliver a valuable content for the customers. Such projects include producing newsletters, promo graphics, web-pages, posters.
AJ Tailor is a start-up company with small number of employees. The advantage of that is that every person in the company is in the easy access, so groupwork is pretty enjoyable. It was really nice to hear opinions of produced work from different team members, including fashion consultant and the CEO. Although, as I was the only person responsible for the visual content, I had a huge responsibility of decision-making regarding graphics that represent the company.
