Monitoring the Atmosphere
  1. GVRD

    Ken Stubs from the Air Quality Control, GVRD will be a guest lecturer, and will tell us about air pollution monitoring by the GVRD.

  2. Satellites

    We will look at the history, and current application of meteorological sattelites, with particualar emphasis on their orbits, intrumentation and capabilities.

Homwork Assignment:
What is the period of orbit (in minutes) for a typical meteorologica satelite in in polar orbit. Assume that the satellite orbits at an altitude of 850km. For the example done in class regarding Geosynchronous orbit, click here.
