Ismail M. Khater

Ismail M. Khater is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the department of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University (SFU). He obtained his PhD in Computing Science from Simon Fraser University. He is working under the supervision of Prof. Ghassan Hamarneh at the Medical Image Analysis Lab (MIAL). His research interests are in the areas of medical image analysis with an emphasis on super-resolution microscopy and computational complex networks. He is leveraging machine/deep learning approaches to process big-data of 3D point clouds of proteins and extract their features using unsupervised learning. Specifically, he is analyzing the constellations of millions of Caveolin-1 protein localizations in prostate cancer cells to identify the bio-signatures of cellular compartments at the cell membrane. He is collaborating with Prof. Ivan Robert Nabi from the University of British Columbia (UBC) to characterize sub-cellular domains at the nano-meter scale.

Prior joining SFU, Ismail was a PhD student in Electrical & Computer Engineering department at Concordia University for about one year then he moved to SFU.

He did his master in Computer Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). His master thesis was about email spam filtering using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. He received his BSc in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Birzeit University (BZU). His BSc thesis was about simulation of 3G communication systems.
