SFU WCPA 2006

Information for Students

Welcome!  The WCPA has a long history of active student participation, and it is great to have you here.

Although philosophers generally tend not to have enough money, student philosophers seem to suffer that condition even more often and more severely.  No, we’re not offering cash, but we will try to help you to find decent accommodation at a reasonable price, and to be otherwise welcoming.  Advance registration is already over.  You may register on-site: $25, Canadian cash only (exact change appreciated).

Before giving you a contact, let me tell you what registration includes (and what, sadly, it does not).

Registration includes:

1.    access to all the sessions

2.    coffee, tea, and water at the breaks, and (probably, if my budget holds up) muffins in the mornings

3.    a registration packet with programme, name tag, and other such exciting things

4.    possibly, a drink ticket for Friday evening, but only a few are left—if you registered in advance, you have one, but if you did not, odds are not good.

Registration does not include:

1.    basically, anything else, including the Saturday evening banquet.  The banquet is $32, all inclusive.  Tickets were sold in advance.  If you didn’t buy one but want one, email me before 8am, Thursday, 12 October.  And bring Canadian cash.

The person to contact for assistance is David Gaber (dgaber at sfu.ca), one of our Graduate students.  He does not have email access at home (so generally not on weekends) but is happy also to be contacted by phone: 604-317-8615.

Email/speak to him if you would like to billet and also if you would like to share a room with other people.  Some of the rates are very good (see www.sfu.ca/~jillmc/WCPAacc.htm), and could be made even better by sharing.  Plus, they are close to the conference, which might not be the case if you billet.

There will be some SFU student volunteers at the conference, so don’t be shy about asking questions.  (The volunteers will be the ones with an aura of profound wisdom about them, but anybody from SFU should be happy to try to help.)

If you have any questions now, do not hesitate to contact me: jillmc at sfu.ca.

Above all, have a great time!

Jill
