Helping scientists do science better, one failure at a time

Most of us have probably heard the saying “Failure is life’s greatest teacher” at one point in our life, but few of us have taken this time-honoured maxim to heart more than Dr. Jonathan Kimmelman. In fact, you might even say that his life’s work depends on it.    

Dr. Kimmelman, the lead investigator on a new project that is exploring failure rates in Canadian cancer research, is studying the complex decision-making process that researchers make on their path to developing new cancer drugs.

BioCanRx HQP Travel Awards and Lab Exchanges enable HQP to access external opportunities not offered by the network. Travel Awards reimburse eligible HQP for a maximum of $1000 CAD and Lab Exchanges reimburse up to $3000 CAD.

Special Travel Awards to the Pan-Canadian Strategic Forum on Cell & Gene Therapy
BioCanRx is partnering with CellCAN and the Centre for Commercialization of Cancer Immunotherapy (C3i) on a national forum on the future of cell and gene therapy. The Pan-Canadian Strategic Forum on Cell & Gene Therapy is taking place in Montreal on March 9-10, 2017.
 
BioCanRx is offering 15 HQP Travel Awards (reimbursement up to $750 CAD) to attend this exciting event that will bring together national and international experts in cell and gene therapy. Learn more about the event and our travel awards on CellCAN’s event website (Application period between November 7 to 30, 2016).

Learn about professional skills through the SMRTS Program!
SMRTS stands for Sharing Multi-network Resources for Trainee Success, and it is joint collaboration between nine Networks of Centres of Excellences and other non-profit organizations. The first webinar in this FREE WEBINAR SERIES took place on October 26, 2016 and was presented by AGE-WELL: Canada's technology and aging network on Reverse Innovation.
 
The next free webinar is taking place on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm (EST). Allergen: the Allergy, Genes and Environment Network will present on Communicating in Plain Language.

This past summer, BioCanRx accepted its inaugural cohort of undergraduate students into theBioCanRx Summer Studentship Program. This program provides funding for network investigators to recruit talented university and college students onto exciting cancer biotherapeutics research projects. The competitive application process ensured that the awarded studentships would provide a practical, hands-on research experience that would inspire the next generation of highly qualified personnel.

Summit4CI HQP Working Group
BioCanRx is seeking eight HQP to participate on the Summit4CI HQP Working Group from December 2016 to June 2017. This group will advise, organize and execute the training activities at the 2017 Summit4CI in the National Capital Region from June 25-28, 2017.
