NEW APP AIMS TO INCREASE YOUTH VACCINATIONS

SFU health sciences professor Scott Lear and colleagues are developing an app to increase vaccine uptake in youth aged 18-29.

Rooted in behaviour change theory, the STOP COVID! app uses gaming strategies to deliver tailored content encouraging youth to get the shot. This initiative is one of 89 new COVID-19 research projects to receive funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research.

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

CREATING INCLUSIVE SPACES BY REMOVING BARRIERS

We can build more inclusive spaces for SFU students by asking:

  • Am I writing in clear, plain language?
  • Am I adding alt text to images and captions to videos?
  • Am I providing accessibility information ahead of time?

Learn small ways to remove accessibility barriers in advance when planning an event, setting up a Canvas page and more.

WORKING ON BURNABY CAMPUS OVER THE WINTER BREAK?

Between December 25 and January 1, thermostats across Burnaby Campus will be turned down resulting in cooler indoor temperatures.

If you intend to work on campus during the break, please contact Facilities Services (fmserv@sfu.ca) before Friday, December 17 with your dates, times, building name, room number and contact information to ensure you have adequate heat. Thanks for your support in helping SFU reduce its greenhouse gas emissions this winter.

UPCOMING STRAND HALL POWER OUTAGE

As part of Strand Hall Annex’s demolition, a building-wide electrical shutdown is scheduled for Saturday, December 11, from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Back-up power will keep equipment on in vital service rooms. Please contact gloria_kwong_2@sfu.ca with questions.

Are you looking to host a consultation with your community in the new year? We’ve added a new section to the Faculty + Staff Dashboard that gathers best practices for public engagement and consultation so that you can have more meaningful and inclusive conversations.

At the end of every course, undergraduates complete a survey to share feedback about their experiences. Faculty members are invited to provide their input to improve the surveys at one of the upcoming sessions in January.

Planning an event in the new year? SFU’s Student Ambassador Program can connect you with students looking for short-term volunteer opportunities on campus. Learn about the program criteria and how to post your opportunity.
