Let Burnaby’s Mayor and Council know why you support the gondola

The Burnaby Mountain Gondola is effective. It’s better for the environment. It provides effective year-round service, even when it snows. And the SFU community knows this—over 10,000 people took Translink’s survey and showed support for the gondola. We’re closer than ever, but our local elected representatives need to hear from you before a final decision is made.

Applications for Indigenous Digital Media Grants are now open

Apply for one of SFU's Indigenous Digital Media Grants. These grants offer financial support of up to $10,000 per project to SFU faculty, staff and graduate students developing Indigenous digital resources. Applications are welcome for projects engaged in digitizing materials or creating new media. Applications close Feb. 26, 2021.

SFU is going virtual with the 3 minute thesis competition this year

Graduate students are challenged to submit their thesis and explain why it's important in three minutes. The 3 Minute Thesis competition cultivates students' academic, presentation, research and communication skills and celebrates exciting graduate research taking place at Simon Fraser University. Please check the website for faculty specific deadlines and information on how to enter.

Joshua Whitehead's book Jonny Appleseed selected as this year's One Book One SFU

SFU Library is pleased to announce Joshua Whitehead's Jonny Appleseed as this year's pick for One Book One SFU. This award-winning novel, also recently selected as a Canada Reads finalist, centers on a Two-Spirit Indigiqueer young man who must reckon with his past when he returns home to his reserve. One Book One SFU is committed to fostering ideas and facilitating dialogue towards a more just society. Join the SFU community in reading the book ahead of our virtual author event on March 30.

We are all living through challenging times right now; let's find a way to thrive together. Thrive Week is about taking action to create positive well-being at SFU and beyond. It's about making space for well-being, continuing the conversation around mental health, learning about resources offered by SFU and changing our perceptions as a community.
