SFU PROFESSOR RECOGNIZED FOR 50 YEARS OF ORANGUTAN WORK

Birute Mary Galdikas has been awarded the Chris Dagg Award for her ongoing research documenting orangutan behaviour, mobilizing rehabilitation efforts and advocating for their ancient rainforest habitat in collaboration with the area’s Indigenous communities. This year marks Galdikas' 50th year in the field.

Three educators recognized for their teaching excellence

Congratulations to Victoria Claydon, Carolyn Sparrey and Tiffany Muller Myrdahl on being awarded this year's Excellence in Teaching Awards. Nominated by faculty and students, these individuals are recognized based on their ability to deliver a great education, especially during these exceptional times.

SFU awarded for cleantech efforts

At this year's BC Cleantech Awards, SFU received the Top Education Institute accolade for its work championing a cleantech future. SFU professor Elicia Maine also took home the Top Educator honour for her work in creating a more sustainable future for everyone.

VPRI OFFICE LAUNCHES WEEKLY SCHOLARLY MILESTONES & RESEARCH IMPACTS

SFU’s Office of the Vice-President, Research and International launched an initiative this month to showcase SFU's scholarly excellence, in all its forms, and to generate greater awareness and pride within the university community.

New writing guide supports INCLUSIVITY

Inclusive writing is good writing. When we intentionally write inclusively, our writing can become more relevant, respectful and effective. Explore the SFU Library’s Inclusive and Antiracist Writing Guide for strategies, resources and examples on how to make your writing more inclusive.

Reminder: 2021 Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy Nominations has been Extended

Nominations are about to close for the 2021 Nora and Ted Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy. The annual prize is awarded to an individual who challenges complacency and presents new ways of looking at the world that are daring and creative. Deadline for nominations is March 15. Any inquiries can be sent to the Vice-President, Academic Office.

$120,000 now available through the 2021 Community Engagement Initiative

The Initiative offers small grants to catalyze community-university impact through the practice of respectful, mutually-beneficial research, learning and creative activity. Up to half of the available funding will be considered for proposals working with community partners to build and strengthen resilience in the face of the ongoing pandemic. Deadline for regular applications is April 16, 2021 (community resilience proposals will be considered on a rolling basis in an effort to expedite funding).
