IMAGETECH LAB GAINS NEW TECH ALLY IN ADVANCING BRAIN RESEARCH

One of SFU's core facilities, the ImageTech Lab, has unveiled an impressive new resource to support neuroscience research in our region. This new equipment will help top health innovators at SFU and beyond to rapidly advance brain disease prevention and injury treatment.

 

PEACEBUILDING AMIDST CONFLICT IN NORTHERN KENYA

Master of Arts in International Studies student Yussuf Osman turned his passion for activism and connection to his homeland. His research addresses climate change-related conflicts between livestock pastoralists and agriculture farmers. Osman is studying community-based peace initiatives including an annual camel caravan event that fosters peace and sustainable development.

 

Professor Hugo Cardoso has embarked on a groundbreaking project, acquiring 58 ancestral remains from Portugal on a long-term loan. The project will facilitate workshops and courses for professionals and contribute to ethical discussions surrounding the use of human remains in research and teaching.

TAKE PART IN THE PRESIDENTIAL RE-ELECTION PROCESS

SFU’s Board of Governors has embarked on the re-appointment review process for incumbent president Joy Johnson. Your opinion is important: all SFU faculty, staff and students are invited to get involved in the process and share their feedback via a survey until October 11.

 

LONG WEEKEND CLOSURE AND NEWSLETTER NOTICE

All SFU campus offices will be closed on Monday, October 9 for Thanksgiving Day. Campuses will resume operations on Tuesday, October 10. This newsletter will be delivered as usual. To accommodate office closures, please submit content for the next edition by 12 p.m. on Friday, October 6.

Nicole Luongo is the recipient of the 2023 Nora and Ted Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy. She is being recognized for her dedicated advocacy and work on developing a legislative framework in which all psychoactive drugs would be made legal, safe and government regulated. Attend a free in-person or virtual award ceremony and presentation on effective policy solutions to B.C.'s toxic drug crisis.
