WearTech Labs

SFU’s Core Facility for Advanced Wearable Technology Research and Development

Advancing wearable technology development

Wearables extend beyond watches and trackers to include exoskeletons, prosthetics, hearables, footwear, technical apparel, and more. We designed the lab to work with both industry and academia while moving at industry speeds. It is a place where ideas become prototypes, prototypes get validated, and validated ideas become products.

WearTech Labs is both people and place. It is a dedicated team of research engineers and scientists experienced in wearables research and development. It is also a state-of-the-art 10,000 square foot facility focused on rapid prototyping and human subject testing. The facility features 3D printing, flexible electronics, materials testing, motion capture, wind tunnels, environmental chambers, and more.

WearTech Labs represents a $17 million investment from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, BC Knowledge Development Fund, Pacific Economic Development Canada, and Simon Fraser University.

Why Choose WearTech Labs

One Vendor. One Contract. Do it all at WearTech Labs.

One ecosystem. Zero handoffs. Most development programs require coordinating between separate prototyping shops, testing labs, and analytics firms—each with their own timelines, communication gaps, and compatibility issues. WearTech Labs helps reduce that friction.

Prototype, validate, and decide within a single facility. Your team works with the same technical staff from first build through human testing to final analysis. Insights from validation immediately inform your next design iteration—no shipping delays, no vendor negotiations, no lost context between phases.

Speed that changes what's possible. When your prototype is steps away from the motion capture lab, you can refine and retest much faster. The feedback loops get shorter, and the developer cycles get faster.
