SFU United Way Campaign begins!

October 29, 2018

Simon Fraser University’s United Way Campaign – a November tradition – launches this week, and I encourage everyone to pitch in and demonstrate SFU’s spirit of engagement.

Each year, SFU partners with United Way of the Lower Mainland in a campaign to raise much-needed funds for programs and services to help children, families and seniors living in poverty. This year’s theme is Local Love – focusing on the importance of people taking action in their local communities.

A great example of how this makes a difference is SFU’s Friends of Simon program. The program, which receives support from United Way, recruits and prepares university students to serve as literacy tutors in Lower Mainland schools, providing mentorship and assistance to newcomer K-12 students.

The SFU campaign fundraising goal this year is $150,000 – and with your help I know we can do it.

There are several fun and easy ways to contribute, including:

  • Book Sales: Burnaby November 20-22; Vancouver November 21; Surrey November 29;
  • Bake Sales: Burnaby November 20; Vancouver November 21;
  • SFU’s culinary event of the year, The Great Bake Off: Burnaby November 28;
  • The ever-popular Faculty Smackdown: Burnaby November 29
  • Market on the Mezz: Surrey November 29

Please visit www.sfu.ca/unitedway to explore other ways that you can get involved.

Thank you for your support.  Whether as a donor, volunteer or fundraiser, you are helping to build and strengthen our communities.
