Health and safety guidelines for in-person research

In-person research activities are permitted with the following considerations:

  • Researchers must indicate within their research ethics application that they will follow the prevention measures outlined within SFU's Communicable Disease Plan.
  • SFU-affiliated researchers are encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 if they are conducting in-person research activities. Their vaccination status should be clearly stated in the consent form.
  • It is the responsibility of the PI to clearly communicate their COVID-19 safety plans, including any vaccination or mask requirement for participants in the application form and consent form.
  • When researchers are working with a population considered vulnerable with respect to contracting COVID-19 (as evidenced by population data), the onus is on the PI to clearly communicate this risk to participants in the consent form along with their safety plans so that the participants can make a fully informed decision about whether or not to participate.

Researchers wanting to revise their current research procedures will need to submit an amendment in the online system.
