Details

The UNLOAD= system option helps you optimize SAS System performance. This system option enables the SAS System to disassociate a dynamically loaded image from a user's virtual address space and to release resources allocated by the loaded image. The ability to remove images has been available since Release 5.18, but the syntax and nature of the UNLOAD= system option have changed.

You can specify UNLOAD when memory is at a premium, however, doing so will adversely affect performance. If the same procedures are used repeatedly in a SAS job, specify NOUNLOAD.
